Loudoun Valley VA senior Carlos Shultz placed second in the 5-kilometer Nike Race of Champions boys competition in 14:55.6 at the Great American Cross Country Festival at WakeMed Park in Cary, N.C. Shultz elevated to the No. 2 performer in program history at WakeMed, trailing only Drew Hunter's 14:46.1 at Great American in 2014, and ascended to the No. 11 all-time performer overall, helping Loudoun Valley place second to Great Oak CA by a 69-108 margin. It marked the first time Loudoun Valley suffered a setback at WakeMed since finishing third at NXR Southeast in 2016.
